What is ISO 9001?
ISO 9001 is an international standard for quality management systems. Its requirements can be applied by organisations of different sizes and sectors. The standard focuses on processes, responsibilities, risks and opportunities, performance monitoring and improvement.
What does an audit assess?
Auditors examine evidence relevant to the declared scope, including how an organisation:
- understands customer and other relevant requirements;
- sets quality processes and responsibilities;
- monitors results and addresses nonconformities;
- reviews performance and plans improvement.
The assessment uses the criteria and edition applicable to the audit. Certification does not guarantee that every product or service will be defect-free.
What happens before the audit?
- Share the requested standard and a description of the organisation.
- Review the proposed scope, locations and complexity of activities.
- Confirm whether the request fits the available certification and accreditation scope.
- Receive information about stages, timing and required resources.
Edition note: this page describes the general purpose of ISO 9001. Confirm the current edition, transition arrangements and availability within an accredited scope for your enquiry.
